PROCESS

Process taking action:

The first thing I did when I found a suitable app was to make a lot of silly doodles. While I did not develop many skills, it did help me learn how to orient myself around the app I was using. When making my product, I applied a lot of techniques I already knew to the creation of my product. This included the approach I took to making my art. I would first sketch out the proportions of what I was trying to draw, then connect the shapes to create lineart. I would then colour the lineart (on a separate layer) with a base colour, and gradually shade and add extra details by using a range of brushes and a large number of layers. The hardest part of this process was finding inspiration to make art I was proud with. I have historically struggled with working when I do not feel inspired to, especially when making art. This proved to probably be one of the hardest obstacles I had to overcome as I found it incredibly difficult to follow the schedule I had set myself.

Process planning:

I had originally planned to only make one final piece of art but after interviewing multiple people I realized that the best way to develop a range of skills was to experiment with different styles and tools. This would be done best by making a range of illustrations. The biggest issue I faced in the planning part of the project was conducting effective research. As digital art is a relatively new medium and there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to learning how to make any type of art, it was incredibly difficult to find proper sources. Eventually, most of my research was conducted in the form of interviews with people who have had a lot of experience with digital art.
